YC Remote College Outreach Tour: Michael Seibel

Michael Seibel

Yale students and alumni: join the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (Tsai CITY) and the Yale SOM Program on Entrepreneurship for a talk with Y Combinator partner and CEO Michael Seibel. Before YC, Michael was the co-founder and CEO of Justin.tv (which later became Twitch and sold to Amazon for $1B), and Socialcam. Michael will cover some of the myths that exist around starting startups, what you should do while you’re still in school if you want to start a company, and he’ll talk about how YC can help you get started. He’ll also spend time answering your questions. This event will be especially interesting for students with early-stage technology startups.

About YC: Y Combinator is a startup fund based in Mountain View, CA. Twice a year YC invests a small amount of money in a large number of startups. The startups move to Silicon Valley for 3 months, and the YC partners work closely with each company to get them into the best possible shape and refine their pitch to investors. Each batch culminates in Demo Day, when the startups present their companies to a carefully selected audience of investors. Y Combinator has invested in over 2,500 companies including Stripe, Airbnb, Instacart, Dropbox, Reddit, Coinbase and Ginkgo Bioworks. The combined valuation of YC companies is over $150B.

About Michael Seibel: Michael Seibel is the CEO and a Partner at Y Combinator. Michael Seibel was the co-founder and CEO Justin.tv and Socialcam. Socialcam sold to Autodesk in 2012 and under the leadership of Emmett Shear, Justin.tv became Twitch.tv and sold to Amazon in 2014. Before getting into startups, he spent a year as the finance director for a US Senate campaign and in 2005, Michael graduated from Yale University with a BA in political science.

This virtual event is open to Yale students and alumni. A Zoom link will be sent to registered participants. Attendees are encouraged to have video on throughout and audio on when appropriate!
