Intensive Coordinator, Innovative Thinking Deconstructed

Fall 2023

The Innovative Thinking Intensive Coordinator is a role designed to support Tsai CITY’s newest intensive, Innovative Thinking. This course is to be presented by John Kao, a Visiting Fellow at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Yale Ventures entrepreneur in residence, and Trumbull College Fellow. John's eclectic experience as a producer, musician, innovation maven, and former Harvard Business School professor is reflected in the course design.

The course aims to provide students with a unique overview of the domain of innovative thinking by examining four archetypes – the leader, the Hollywood producer, the designer/entrepreneur, and the improviser. Through mini-lectures, exercises, and case examples, the course will enable students to develop a fresh perspective on innovation and assess their own proficiencies.

In this role, the Innovative Thinking Intensive Coordinator will have a variety of responsibilities. These include helping to recruit diverse participants by conducting a strategic marketing campaign utilizing social media, group chats, and email outreach. The coordinator will also manage program communications and develop multimedia documentation through the program portal.

Supporting sessions through question and answer, activity, and technology facilitation is another key aspect of the role. The coordinator will also coordinate out-of-class meetings as needed and assist with the production of course materials, including a playbook that will enable self-assessment.

Furthermore, the coordinator will collect and analyze student feedback and engagement and perform other duties as assigned. This role is integral to the successful delivery of the Innovative Thinking course and the overall student experience.
