Intensive: Generative AI for All: What is ChatGPT?

In this multi-week cohort-based program, participants will receive a broad overview of what Generative AI is, what ChatGPT is, and how to leverage ChatGPT in different disciplines. Students will have the chance to explore ChatGPT, and identify if it is the right tool for their needs.

Generative AI for All: What is ChatGPT? is a multi-week intensive designed for non-STEM students eager to explore Generative AI and ChatGPT. Participants will learn how to apply ChatGPT to their venture ideas, academic research, or personal projects. This program will teach generative AI concepts and provide hands-on experience with custom GPT models. Students will meet in-person on Wednesday evenings from 5:30PM - 7PM at Tsai CITY. 

Who is this program for:

  • Students who may not have a firm grasp on what AI, Generative AI, and/or ChatGPT are.
  • Students who are interested in learning about AI, Generative AI, and/or ChatGPT with other peers.
  • Students interested in using ChatGPT for a specific purpose. This includes ventures, academic research, or personal use.

Program Resources:

  • A comprehensive introduction to the evolution of AI, Generative AI, large-language models (LLMs), and ChatGPT.
  • Hands-on experience with prompt engineering, building custom GPT models, and understanding the benefits and risks of AI.
  • A supportive environment with opportunities for feedback and reflection.

Application and Criteria:

  • Must be a current Yale student
  • Must have an interest in Generative AI, ChatGPT, and/or large-language models
  • No previous experience required

Intensive Schedule

The intensive will meet at Tsai CITY on the following Wednesdays from 5:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.:

  • 1/7, 8:00 A.M. | Application Launch Date 
  • 1/21, 11:59 P.M. | Deadline for students to apply 
  • 2/12 | Session 1: Evolution of AI + Generative AI, Prompt Engineering. Students will learn about the history and evolution of AI, gain a foundational understanding of Generative AI and LLMs, and practice prompt engineering techniques with ChatGPT.
  • 2/19 | Session 2: Exploring + Building w/ ChatGPT. Students will discover how ChatGPT can be tailored to meet their specific needs, learn the importance of data, and explore tools for building custom GPT models.
  • 2/26 | Session 3: Student Workshop - Custom GPT Building. Students will work hands-on to develop their custom GPT models, form teams for collaboration, and receive feedback on their progress.
  • 3/5 | Session 4: Speaker Panel – Human vs. AI: How to Distinguish Their Roles. Students will engage in a panel discussion exploring how humans and AI can complement each other, examining the boundaries and best practices in working alongside AI tools.
  • 3/29, 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. | Session 5: Speaker Panel – AI Ethics (This will be a public event, and a registration link will be added here). Students will participate in a public panel focusing on AI ethics, hearing from experts across industries, and discussing responsible AI development and usage.
