Co-founded by Yale College student Liam Elkind, Invisible Hands is a community-based group of volunteers who safely deliver necessities like groceries and medicine free of charge to those most vulnerable to COVID-19. We talked to Liam about Invisible Hands’ rapid growth and impact, how he thinks about innovation, and more.

This summer, 11 student teams from diverse corners of the Yale campus — including undergraduates majoring in fields from the humanities to the sciences, public health researchers, and master’s students focusing on business and environmental management — will join Tsai CITY’s Summer Fellowship cohort.

Tsai CITY’s spring Accelerator — a semester-long program that helps student teams develop ventures, nonprofits, and projects — wrapped up last week, as the cohort gathered for a final session focused on considering their priorities and mapping out next steps.

This spring, Tsai CITY’s Accelerator cohort has been attending skill-building workshops, hearing from mentors, holding team meetings, and otherwise working to develop their ventures and projects — all from their own homes.

“It’s not an adventure until something goes wrong,” said Yale Center for Business and the Environment executive director Stuart DeCew, quoting Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, as he kicked off the Sabin Sustainable Venture Prize finalist showcase, the first event of Startup Yale 2020.

This month, the Yale Alumni Association announced the launch of Cross Campus, a new networking, community-building, and mentoring platform now open to Yale students and alumni. This launch was particularly exciting for Tsai CITY, which is a campus partner to the effort and is represented on the Cross Campus team by Director of Mentor, Advisor, and Partner Networks Victor Padilla-Taylor. The online platform, which allows users to connect with potential mentors, participate in focused discussion boards, access curated resources for a wide range of interests, and more, includes a group for Yalies interested in Entrepreneurship and Innovation — and this group has quickly gained new members as the platform gets off the ground.
